Richard Lee is an instrument builder and audio researcher from New York exploring mixed media and speaker design. He is a PhD student at MIT in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department working on open problems in acoustic sensing, manufacturing, and audio effects with Professor Mark Rau. He received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University, where he conducted auditory neuroscience research, studied live sound, and ran a film journal. He then completed his Master of Art in Music, Science, and Technology at Stanford University, focused on adaptive controls for embedded audio systems at the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA).
Richard grew up playing the violin and taking the train to concert venues in New York City. Now, he happens upon shows around the MIT campus and the Greater Boston area.
