Mariano Salcedo

Mariano Salcedo grew up in Mexico and started his journey at MIT in 2020. Initially wanting to learn more about computer-aided design (CAD), he majored in mechanical engineering, but after computers started texting back like people around 2023 (aka LLMs hit the mainstream), he switched focus to artificial intelligence and decision making.

During his junior year, Salcedo also began taking MIT Music Technology subjects, which opened up a whole new way of thinking about sound, systems, and interactivity. After graduation, he completed the Master of Science in Music Technology and Computation here at MIT since it was the perfect opportunity to exercise his creativity while honing his technical skills.

For his master’s thesis, Salcedo focused on the intersection of music visualization and emergence. Through his research, he developed Artificial Dancing Intelligence: a web application for real-time music visualization through neural cellular automata. As a next step, he plans to further his research into self-organization and its broader applications.
