Joel Tan is a Master of Science student at MIT working with Professor Anna Huang in the HAI-Res lab. In 2026, he graduated from MIT with a degree in Computer Science. As part of his master’s project, he is currently exploring the possibilities of real-time systems that help a pianist interact with a virtual orchestra. Born and raised in Singapore, Joel has been playing piano since the age of six. A passionate pianist, Joel was previously an Emerson/Harris Program Fellow and has also been part of the MIT Chamber Music Society for the past eight semesters.
