To pursue music technology research at the Ph.D. level, students must first be accepted into the Ph.D. program of MIT’s School of Engineering. The applicant’s research statement and faculty requests should indicate a desire to work with one of our Music Technology faculty who supervise Ph.D. students:
Anna Huang (MTA and EECS): artificial intelligence, machine learning, human-computer interaction as related to generative music systems and Human-AI creative partnerships
Mark Rau (MTS and EECS): instrument acoustics and measurement, physical modeling synthesis, audio signal processing, real-time digital audio effects
Students wishing to apply at both the Ph.D. and Master’s levels should submit two seperate applications.
