Nithya Shikarpur is a third-year PhD student at MIT advised by Professor Anna Huang. She is interested in the modeling of human-AI interactive systems for music creation and creativity, especially for low-resource genres of music. In her research, she is interested in engaging with the artists and communities that she is building tools for through longitudinal co-design sessions with interdisciplinary groups of artists and researchers. Earlier, she was at Université de Montréal and Mila for her Master of Science where she worked on a generative vocal model for Hindustani music. Nithya is a student of Hindustani music and has more recently been picking up jazz singing. In her free time she enjoys reading, watching live music and hanging out with friends.
