Woongjib Choi was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Yonsei University. He is now pursuing a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
First drawn to signal processing as an undergraduate, he began his research on classic image processing problems such as denoising, demosaicing, and super-resolution. During his master’s studies, he shifted his focus to audio: working on post-processing modules for audio codecs and non-blind audio super-resolution. He now investigates representation learning for audio, grounded in signal processing principles.
Outside of research, Woongjib enjoys listening to jazz, soul, rock, and solo piano, and seeks out live concerts whenever he can. He also likes exploring cafes and is into photography and fashion.
